About Us
La Katrina is a Mexican-inspired concept created by Chef Jocelyn Meza with the help of her husband and family. Born in Cuernavaca, Mexico, she wanted to share the favorite dishes of her childhood with her own unique twists. What started out as a food truck in 2020 (during the height of the pandemic) has quickly evolved into two Chicago brick-and-mortar locations. We’re excited to share our love of Mexican cuisine and culture with you!
La Katrina Autentica
We had a great opportunity to expand into a permanent kitchen through a partnership with Little Joe’s Bar at 1041 W Taylor St, Chicago at the end of 2021. This neighborhood staple in Little Italy/University Village had been operating as a bar only and not using its kitchen. It was a win-win for us to bring La Katrina Autentica to their clientele as well as reach the neighborhood through carryout and delivery.
La Katrina Autentica Cafe
We expanded to our own space at 5158 S Kedzie Ave in the southwest neighborhood of Gage Park in the fall of 2022. The larger space and kitchen allowed us to add a cafe element and to serve the community in an expanded capacity and times. The core menu is similar but we added catering and a cafe, serving fresh pastries, coffee, homemade ice cream, custom cakes, and breakfast!

Hosting a meeting, event, or party? Let La Katrina take care of the food! We have catering packages including breakfast options, or you can work with us directly to create a custom menu. Available for delivery or pickup at our Kedzie Ave location.
Homemade Helado (Ice Cream)
We make a wide variety of homemade ice cream and sorbets at our cafe on Kedzie Ave year round. Our rotating options utilize fresh and authentic Mexican and American ingredients and flavors with something for everyone – come find your new favorite!
Homemade Postres (Desserts)
Having been a pastry chef for a decade, I love the opportunity to make fresh desserts, pastries, and bread daily for our Gage Park community. Let us know ahead of time if you want to pick up a custom order!
Custom Pasteles (Cakes)
We also make custom cakes for any occasion! Whether it is a superhero-themed cake for a kid’s birthday party, an extravagant multi-tier wedding cake, something special for a quinceañera, or anything in between, we would love to be part of your big event!
Our Cafe (Coffee)
Great pastries and cake need great coffee! We get ours from the local roastery Sputnik Coffee Company. Ours is served in the traditional cafe de olla style – in an earthen clay mug with a cinnamon stick and a side of the Mexican favorite “piloncillo” (a raw form of sugar cane). Having a cup of coffee with us makes you feel a casa (at home)! Available at our Cafe only.
